Sexism
Sexism can be encountered all around the world. For the most part, it is acted on by men towards women, but sometimes it is the other way around. Sexism is, in simple words, discrimination on someone because of their gender. There are many forms of sexism. It is a wide variety. It can go from not being trusted to make your own decisions about your own body to being abused and blamed for the abuse. Some people say you deserved to be raped, hit, or assaulted because of your gender. Some businesses won’t hire a female because she is simply that, a female. People say “It’s the notion that the worst thing you could possibly be is a woman” (http://feminspire.com/this-is-what-sexism-looks-like/).

The denotation of sexism is “discrimination or devaluation based on a person's sex, as in restricted job opportunities; especially,such discrimination directed against women”. Though the connotation is different. It defies more than just job opportunities. It takes away self-respect and dignity for the victim. It can make the victim feel like they are less of a person than anyone else. Sexism comes from more than just one root. It could possibly come from "cultural traditions, fear, hatred, or superiority, with many sexists believing that their gender is superior for a variety of reasons" ( http://m.wisegeek.com/what-is-sexism.htm).

Everyone is affected by sexism. It is not just toward women, men get it too. It appears mainly in the workforce. Females will be given a fair interveiw but the resume will be thrown away right after because of their gender. Also the women who do have the job would be constantly cat called, touched inoproppriately, have disrespectful remarks made to them about appearence.

In the last 100 years, many forms of sexism has been shown to the human race. There is the obvious cat calls by construction workers at the passing women, but many smaller and less obvious daily sexism acts. This can go from simply calling a woman a "girl" but...
