Principals of Verbal and Nonverbal Communication

There are five main principals to verbal communication. The first principal is to recognize that all languages have equal value, all are important to the diverse cultures in our world. The second principal deals with understanding that everyone speaks their own regional language. These regional languages have unique pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar. The third principle of verbal communication explains understanding that words have many different meanings. The same word in American English can have a completely different meaning say in British. This can lead to misinterpretations and misunderstandings. The forth principle is to recognize how languages are used with different cultures, and the main differences between languages. The fifth principal of verbal communication is to follow suggestions and examples for effective verbal communication in order to develop a better understanding of communication skills. There are five to the nonverbal communication process also. The first principal of the nonverbal communication is facial expressions, the tone used to communicate the message, and the physical movements made while communicating, such as hand movements. The second principle of nonverbal communication is regulating interaction while communicating the message. The third principle is to establish relationship level meanings through communicating the message. The forth principle is to respect and reflect various cultural values and differences. The fifth principle is that nonverbal communication, similar to verbal communication, is culture-bound. There are three principals of verbal and nonverbal communication that I feel are most important to the communication process.
