Remember all those sleepless, frustrating, stressful nights? Remember those bulky, chalky, chemical-filled sleeping pills only taken out of desperation? For years now sleeping pills and liquids have been used to promote restful nights, but why would you want to put all those chemicals in your body? Imagine if there was a song, a song that could put you into a deep, restful sleep unlike any that a sleeping pill could give you. That song is “Weightless” by Marconi Union. “Weightless” is stress-releiving, beneficial, and also based on science. The song “Weightless” by Marconi Union is stress relieving. This song starts out at 60 BPM, or 60 Beats per Minute and gradually decreases to 50 BPM, or 50 Beats per Minute. Much like the song “Someone like you” which is 68 BPM, a little faster than “Weightless.” While you listen to “Weightless”, your heart rate also decreases to match the slow rhythm of the song. This process is called entrainment and it takes at least 5 minutes to occur, which is why the song is about eight minutes long. As your heart rate decreases, you become calmer and less anxious because the blood is being pumped around your body at a slower and calmer rate. This song also has no repeating pattern, which is stress relieving because it allows your brain to shut off, because it is no longer trying to predict what will happen next in this song. The song also features random chimes and chirps, to further add to the sense of relaxation and trance like state. The final element of this song is random, piercing buddhist chant like melodies, which further add to the trance like state that is experienced while listening to this song. Also, The song “Weightless” by Marconi Union is also very beneficial, because it relieves stress as previously mentioned.
